Donations for Emergency Aid Moldova

07/06/2021: In our emergency relief project in the Republic of Moldova, we have given food parcels to more than 5000 socially vulnerable people.

"Children don't understand what we are going through and I don't want them to think we are powerless in the face of this crisis. So we do everything in our power to keep them fed and clothed, albeit simple, but clean."
Filip* Family

The Republic of Moldova is one of the poorest countries in Europe and thus extremely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Between 3 January 2020 and 21 May 2021, more than 6,000 people died of the disease in the Republic of Moldova.

Faced with the lack of government support for the economy, most employers took drastic measures, including laying off employees, reducing headcount or working hours, etc.

The consequences for families

The necessary measures adopted by the government had several consequences for vulnerable families and thus for the families supported by CONCORDIA:

  • Parents lost their jobs and have no other income
  • Children could not go to school and had to stay at home all day
  • Children do not get a daily lunch at school, instead families have to provide additional meals
  • Increased demand for basic needs such as food and hygiene materials
  • No infrastructure for online learning/distance learning, especially in rural areas
  • Missing/very limited financial support from the government

The Filip family* gave us the following message for our donors:

Dear Concordia Social Projects,

We come with a message of thanks for the fact that in these difficult days, during a global pandemic, you are providing considerable support to our family and many others.

We have five children and as a family we strive daily to provide them with at least the basic necessities. But often we fail as we struggle to have a stable job. The pandemic made it even harder to find a job, at least as day labourers and with odd jobs. Children don't understand what we are going through and I don't want them to think we are powerless in the face of this crisis. That is why we are doing everything in our power to feed them, clothe them and keep them clean.

We were very happy to see your car at our door. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for coming to our household, for taking the burden of the worries we experience every day, at least for a while. God bless your actions.

Thank you, your Filip family!
